Reflect on our experience by answering the following question:
- How is this sketch noting technique different to the traditional note taking?
- How does this visual approach facilitate communication of your ideas? Conversely, how does it prevent it?
- Personal challenges as a sketch noter
1 In my opinion, this new method of sketch nothing is kind of remind me the thinking maps, which are series of graphic organizing techniques such as info-graphics, conceptual diagram, flowchart etc that can effectively provide a very clear and systematic method to connect the logical thinking. Compare to the ordinary note-taking, the biggest different is that the handwriting is only a very small part of the notes. The drawings and diagrams could help to develop a more direct way to organize and structure the subject.
2 The visual approach could help to shorten the time that required to record certain information. For instance, the person who does simultaneous interpreting would develop their own coding system, using symbols and drawings to stand for a very long sentence.
3 My main challenge is to manage the contents of the sketchbook. Some of my drawings are too big and consuming too many spaces. As a result, the rest of information looks less important compared to the big one. I am considering to use a more compact format to filling more information and ideas equally as possible.
