  1. Describe your experience of creating a single persona from different users’ perspectives gathered in the interview data. Was there enough commonality between the 4 people interviewed to form a coherent persona? Or would it have made more sense to create a second different persona?

We chose the topic that “going to the supermarket”. When I was the interviewer, I asked some used-open interview questions to my partner. Although those questions were in a generic form, I could gather meaningful information related to our topic. Because all of us had very similar cultural background and life style, there were enough commonality between our teammates in the experience and feelings about supermarket. In the end, our answers formed a coherent persona. I think if we want to create a second different persona, we need more information and interviewees from different cultural background and life style.

Yes, our final persona was meaningful in generating empathy with users. The topic was very closed to life, and all of the information and data gathered from our group members’ real experience and needs. One thing I would change to make it better was that our gathered data should be various and from more different experience, which could help our persona become more realistic and closed to real young users.

Q1. How is this sketch noting technique different to the traditional note taking?

Sketch noting writes down information through drawing. During a lecture, traditional note taking usually copies what the lecturer say on a paper, but sketch noting always focus on expressing the thinking and ideas of the lecturer clearly. Sketch noting is a better way to show different audiences get various feels and ideas. Of course, this type of note could also reveal noters’ personalities and unique thinking .

Q2. How does this visual approach facilitate communication of your ideas? Conversely, how does it prevent it?

By this visual approach, the main information is more exact and understandable. Sketch noting usually includes a plenty of images and graphs, which can help learners recall and review those main ideas and information. In a tutorial, different sketch notes could provide opportunities for learners to exchange ideas and rethink information. However, a good sketch note need to draw pictures in easy-to-understand and have clear arrangement. It might be a little difficult for some learners who are not good at drawing and arranging to create a successful sketch note. Besides, an elusive sketch note is more likely to make mistakes and misunderstandings during a process of review and communication.

Q3. Personal challenges as a sketchnoter.

Actually, I am not good at drawing. So it is a little difficult for me to finish a clear and beautiful sketch note during a lecture. When I listen to a lecture, I always focus on understanding every word, so I will ignore some important contents and main ideas. In a word, it is challenging for me to listen a lecture, comprehend ideas and sketch note at the same time.
