1) What kinds of information and insights did it give you about the usability of the prototype?

There are different information and insights I got doing the usability of the prototype being an observer and participant, in which they actually differ from how we interact with the objects.

2) What aspects of the technique worked well or were frustrating?

The observing method worked well with me as I got many points and thoughts of how to develop the prototype better. The frustrating part was the think aloud one because it related to participating like different users which depend on the personality of whom you are interacting with.

  1. Choose one of the objects you selected and describe how your initial understanding of its affordances changed over the course of the exercise?

    A) One of the objects I have chosen is a tissue roll. Initial understanding has been changed into different affordances like a chair, telescope and also paper weight. They actually changed by being in different situations, looking in different angles.

  2. Given that affordances is a relational property between a person and an object, how did the manipulation of the object and the person’s abilities inform your understanding of the concept? Did it give you inspiration or insight for how to work with affordances as a designer? Discuss this through the specific objects you explored in the exercise.

    A) The first object is a power adapter, initial affordances we’re its an adapter which you can plug any type of device then the affordance changed into a heavy block, design piece, hanging object and paper weight. The second was a dental floss, initially affordances we’re normal then later they changed into a sitting table, playing block and a spinner. The third one is explained in the first question. The combination of all the objects has got to an end of different objects like an art piece, briefcase, scissors, holder. Later we have been in different situations, being like a different variety of people and went to the affordances of how they interact with it.

  1. How did thinking in terms of shots and scenes influence your approach to communicating your design concept?

    A) Shots and scenes made it easy to get the whole concept of communicating with the audience, this method actually helps in delivering the content easily.

  2. What motivated your choice of storyline structure? Can you think of an exemplar from a film that uses the same structure?

A)The whole idea of what, when, where, how and why made us come to a point of choosing the storyline.

  3. What choices did you make about audience and style? Were they related?

    A) We made choice depending on the concept, which made us choose and go forward with the choices. They are related because choosing an audience is important.

1. How did physically acting out help to explore ideas?

It helped a lot thinking about the situations and the problems that can occur accordingly that actually implied in generation of ideas.

2. Did you refine your ideas and solutions to the problem through body storming? In that way?

The refinement is done by thinking of constraints placing them in the sutuations and mapping them. This way actually helped in extending the solution.

3. What was difficult or challenging about body storming?

Major challenge was to be in the actor to act. I felt it good doing body storming.

4. Does body storming lend itself to certain types of problems?

Body storming lead to think about different problems in situations adding constraints and deleting the unwanted stuff which leaded to final product.

1. How did taking the position of an extreme user influence your thinking in relation to the design challenge? Was it different to how you usually generate ideas and empathy?

Being in the position of extreme user is helpful in thinking and generating ideas. It made a lot of change in the way I think in creating perspectives and scenarios. It made me easy when compared to what I do in general.

2. Did any of other design thinking techniques help you to work through ideas and collaborate with your group members?

Stories and storyboards have been so helpful. We divided the problems into different verticles in terms of usage like experience, changing, creating and motion.
