Blog 6 – Body Storming – chtu6374

1. How did physically acting out help to explore ideas?

I never realized a physical act can help that much for design, by reading the actor’s body language we can find the clue to make a design which is suitable for the circumstances (but needed a good actor first !)

2. Did you refine your ideas and solutions to the problem through body storming? In what way?

My group chose “sleeping in airplanes” scenario, I personally understand how hard to sleep during the flight, and also that becomes an issue to other members. We asked the actor to act different problem we had on plane, and exchange our ideas to make a solution.

3. What was difficult or challenging about body storming?

I think different actor has different way to present their feels about the circumstances. And some problems we found act similar.

4. Does body storming lend itself to certain types of problems?

Body storming can easily define and solve some physical issue but some problems are come from the technique aspect which can not be solve by body storming

Blog reflection 5 – Ideating – chtu6374

How did taking the position of an Extreme User influence your thinking in relation to the design challenge? Was it different to how you usually generate ideas and empathy?

It is quite a challenge that mix up two different elements (phone booth and romantic), What I tried to do is not only make the phone booth feel romance from the "exterior" but tried to make it romantic from the "interior" as well. It means not only using decoration on the phone booth but the user will feel romantic when they use it.

Did any of the other design thinking techniques (design provocation cards, stories, storyboards, etc.) help you to work through ideas and collaborate with your group members?

Yes, the provocation cards is helpful to generate new ideas. The team members also help each to think differently.

Blog reflection 3 – persona–chtu6374

Describe your experience of creating a single persona from different users’ perspectives gathered in the interview data. Was there enough commonality between the 4 people interviewed to form a coherent persona?Or would it have made more sense to create a second different.

Our group had chosen “ Catching public transport” Which is a familiar and easily reflect to ourselves. Basically we analysis our own experiences and difficult about catching public transport. We find out most public transport has a common issue of surrounding environment, also the price is a big issue especially for international students. The experience of creating a persona is quite a interesting process that we can reflect our own issue about public transport and also understand what others problem.

Do you think your final persona was successful in generating empathy with users? What would you change to make it better?

I feel good about our group’s persona, because it is just like a mixture of all the problems we face in public transport. If  I have a chance I would like to dig into the persona’s personality and make it more realistic.
