IDEA9106 Design Thinking

Design is a state of mind

1) How did physically acting out help to explore ideas?

The physical acting is a natural way to simulate the real situation that the users are actually facing. It can remind us more detailed information.

2) Did you refine your ideas and solutions to the problem through bodystorming? In what way?

Testing the idea by bodystorming is a good way to do a usability test. This test shows that most of our ideas are unrealistic.

3) What was difficult or challenging about bodystorming?

It is hard to simulate the real condition which is caused by nature or a complex physic phenomenon like overweighting and the awareness of the pressure.

1) Choose one of the objects you selected and

describe how your initial understanding of its

affordances changed over the course of the

The object I choose is brush. The traditional use of brush is to clean, but when I change it to the other side, it can be use as a hard stick to dig.

2) Given that affordances is a relational

property between a person and an object ,

how did the manipulation of the object and

the person’s abilities inform your

understanding of the concept? Did it give

you inspiration or insight for how to work

with affordances as a designer? Discuss this

through the specific objects you explored in

the exercise.

Considering the object knife, I realized that it is hard for the blind people to find out which side of the object is the handle since they have to touch the object before they know the fact. They may get hurt during this action. So the  relationship between blind users and the knife are not being considered in the process of designing the knife. So as a designer, I should consider about all the possible situation , at least I will list which are the customers that the  product is not suitable for.613522178.jpg

1) What kinds of information and insights did it

give you about the usability of the prototype?

It is hard for the designer to think as a user.  User always have misunderstanding of what the designer or the interface really mean.

2) What aspects of the technique worked well or

were frustrating?

It can simulate the situation users really meet when using the software. On the other hand, it is hard for the tester to record on every and also hard for non-experienced participant to express themselves.

1. How did thinking in terms of shots and scenes influence your approach to communicating your design concept?

The shots and scenes method help me to focus only on the most important information that I want to convey. And the rest of the story is left to the imagination, and also can be regenerate when I need to tell the story for another time.

2. What motivated your choice of storyline structure? Can you think of an exemplar f rom a film that uses the same structure?

The structure is determined by the function of our products. It has its own most suitable used situation.

2What choices did you make about audience and style? Were they related?

They are related since our audience are the international student who need to make more friends which is our target customers.
