How did taking the position of an Extreme User influence your thinking in relation to the design challenge? Was it different to how you usually generate ideas and empathy?
It is obviously different from the way we thinking generally. Taking the position of extreme characters, in which fictional users with exaggerated emotional attitudes are taken as the basis of design to highlight cultural issues. These methods may help designers in considering physical interactions with products. Allowing us to get out of our mind stereotypes and into the life of anther person with value of extreme, and make the ideation about what they might need and what is not prefer. As the extreme users’ needs must combine the mainstream users’ , making it possible to empathy target users.
Did any of the other design thinking techniques (design provocation cards, stories, storyboards, etc.) help you to work through ideas and collaborate with your group members?
Design provocation cards enable me thinking with multiple fronts of notions that human being hold: the value, experience, attitudes, and variety of motions individuals might take, thus allow me to detect extreme users’ need from comprehensive aspects, and imagine their motions based on certain issue.
Storyboard provide me with a dynamical method to express the details of my ideas to my group mates, as well as helping members and me tease out how the product function, and detect the defects that my design project have. So we could collaboratively developed a concept in response to a specific design challenge.
