1) How did this exercise help you build empathy with prospective users?
By studying the interview script of several prospective users, we can increase our understanding of why they go traveling, what they need during traveling and their satisfaction and frustration towards traveling. It is by picking the related information and rarely perceived details in the interview that we felt empathetic to the users. We managed to know what their needs or potential needs are. At the same time, we still get ways to observe the interviewees’ gestures and facial expression, therefore identifying the information they provided.
2) How did the clustering of information help you to understand user needs?
The more information we get the more understandings we might have towards the users. From their answers to various preset open-end questions, we collect and gather both the key information and tiny details which might be useful for the ongoing project and ultimately abstract and categorize the information to what we need.
3) What was difficult or challenging with the technique? How would you do it better next time?
The challenge that I consider is how to accurately categorize or abstract the information from what we collect from the interviewees. Tracing back to the source of the challenge, not only the information itself but how to design the questions that set in the interview needs to be carefully built and selected. Then we can get the related information correctly thus manage to categorize and summarize the information being provided. Also, the whole procedure largely depends on group cooperation. By allowing more possibilities(information), we will encourage group members to contribute their ideas and opinions of the information they gathered and at the end compile the information to better use in a logical sensible way.
