1) How did this exercise help you build empathy with prospective users?
By reading their interviews, I gain a tangible sense of user experience from what they said and recorded. In this way, I can understand the people who I design for and focus on what people do and get to know what they truly need as well as how to improve my own design. This exercise really helps a lot.
2) How did the clustering of information help you to understand user needs?
We collect the information by dividing them into different categories, and each category has the same theme. By doing this, it gives me a direct and visual impression of what the themes and their belonging details are. In other words, it helps me build empathy with a palpable ladder of causes and effects.
In conclusion, affinity diagram is an effective way to deal with the data I have collected.
3) What was difficult or challenging with the technique? How would you do it better next time?
1.Time for reading
My reading speed is really slow and I cannot read 7-8 pages in a short time. And this leads me to an embarrassing situation: When other students highlighted their contents and prepared to discuss in a group, I had only got very little material to show.
2.The skill of synthesizing
When we put all the yellow notes together, we found it difficult to synthesize them into the same category. And after visiting other groups, I think they’ve done much better than us.
What I need to do:
First of all, I need to do more practice and consciously improve my reading speed in case it delays my working process. Secondly, I should learn the skill of synthesized summary and to do this, I will practice with my classmates and make progress together.
