Q1. Describe your experience of creating personas from different users’ perspectives gathered in the interview data. Was there enough commonality between the 4 people interviewed to form a coherent persona？ Or did it make more sense to create a second different persona?
We were 4 people in the group we chose to analyse the activity going to the supermarket. and after the interviews, we came up with at least 8 variables that could affect intervieews behave. After placing each one of us on the continuum and multiple-choice variables, we found out that there were two smaller groups within our group that had commonalities. A group (2 people): Go to the supermarket frequently. B group (2 people): Go to the supermarket infrequently. There has two main reason, one is the distance from supermarket to home (living environment); secondly is the price (sales item).
From the data, we create a persona based on the data of the second group because this personal can represent Chinese international students, The notes and persona information is listed below. And the characteristics of the people interviewed were different to create a second or third proto-person because we have the same situation such as age, occupation, background…but were useful to give more details in order to describe a more realistic persona.
Q2. Do you think your final persona(s) was successful in generating empathy with users? What would you change to make it better?
Yes, our final persona is good in generating empathy with users who are Chinese international students. we give him a common Chinese backgrounds and put him into some Chinese traditional situations that make his more empathy and real. Like He is bookworm in his childhood and he just go abroad after him bachelor degree, so he is lack of communication skill. So he chooses Auto-checkout services in the supermarket so that he can escape unnecessary communications with the stuffs. Even though I think we need to improve the detailed information for the final persona, So we need to make wide and representative background interviews which can generate better empathy with the prospective users.
