1: How is this sketchnoting technique different to the traditional note taking?

Sketchnoting is differnent with traditional note-taking both in layout and content.

Sketchnotings are always with icons, arrows, lines or even hand-drawn little men. These help the writer to take down not only literal information, but also certain sequences, logical relations or specific construction——because some details are discomfortble to explain with words. On the other hand, the readers will have a better and more quickly understanding of the note.

In conclution, sketchnoting uses a special layout to help a person take down the information in an creative and visual way, which is very useful in designwork.

2: How does this visual approach facilitate communication of your ideas? Conversely, how does it prevent it?

Visual information can be understand immediately, so instead of describing an idea, a sketch directly shows what the idea is, which saves time in communication. Also, sketchnoting can easily present specific sequences or logical relationships. These all facilitate the communication.

However, every single person has a unique sensation of visual information. A simple arrow can have different meaning to two person. This means if sketchnoting doesn’t follow some basic principles, it will lead to misunderstanding. Sometimes a “creative” sketch can be confusing to another person. Using literal explanation is also important when taking sketchnote.

3: Personal challenges as a sketchnoter.

First of all, making a beautiful layout is not easy to me. When there is too much information, I have to conbine the three structures (grid, radial, freeform), and this is quite diffcult at the beginning.

Another challenge is the drawing. It must be both simple and easy to understand. I realized that it’s hard to draw something quickly but accuratly. Forexample, I wanted to draw a dophin but what I’ve drawn looks more like a seal.
