1. How did taking the position of an Extreme User influence your thinking in relation to the design challenge? Was it different to how you usually generate ideas and empathy?

In my opinion, taking position of an Extreme User forces me to let my imagination go wild, considering when it comes to designing a product (or system), what the expectation of this extreme group is. I’m not that type of person who are able to conceive many crazy ideas. Thus, it was quite hard for me at the beginning because my practical design concepts seems cannot suit their needs.
Furthermore, I think this method is very different to my way of generating a ideas. I was used to take “normal person” as sample to come up with some design ideas for their needs because I thought that would be the best way to create a design which can generally satisfy most of users. However, it perhaps limits the designers creativity sometimes. Although I think this technique is unlike my way of generating a ideas, its process of generating empathy is the same to me. As I was working on the story writing, I was able to put myself in my user’s situation and have empathy towards him.

2. Did any of the other design thinking techniques (design provocation cards, stories, storyboards, etc.) help you to work through ideas and collaborate with your group members?

I think design provocation cards is helpful to me because when I cannot generate any idea, I can use them to get inspirations. Some words may look irrelevant to my character but somehow I still can find the connection between these words and my story, which makes my character’s story more vivid. Also, I very like storyboard part. It helps our team to go through together the things which our character encountered and makes us have better understanding and be on the same page about the character.
