How is this technique different to the traditional note taking?

“In all probability, humans will never write as fast as we talk”[1]. Sketchnoting solved the fact that we generally can’t scribe as fast as we speak. In a very attractive way, Sketchnoting can arrest attention, provide a contrast and elucidate points. It can be seeing as a plug-in for traditional noting skill, the extends turn things you have taken into a story, a journey lead by your thinking and connect each puzzle which make reader easier to memorize or recap the key elements.

How does this visual approach facilitate communication of your ideas? Conversely, how does it prevent it?

From my perspective, the visual image can give reader a very strong concept of the content. It may base on the understanding of the meaning of sketches, but strong visual content is a great way to make a first impression. Besides with certain amount of text which gives more information in detail really makes the representation of ideas much more compact.

Personal challenges as a sketchnoter.

I personally lack of practice on drawing skill. Sometimes I try to add more detail to my drawing the outcome confuse reader or even myself when I recap things I sketched. Also it can be extremely emotional or the use of personal icon that other people won’t understand.
